EUROPEAN LEARNING & ERASMUS+

Learning across Europe. Building capacity at home.

Building capacity also requires us to keep learning.

In 2026, Mnajdra Institute was awarded Erasmus+ funding for staff and volunteer mobility, creating opportunities for members of our community to learn alongside practitioners and organisations in different European contexts.

Through professional training, exchange and job shadowing, we are strengthening areas of practice that contribute to our developing resilience and mental-health work. Current learning includes embodied and creative approaches to resilience, trauma-informed practice, relational work, working safely with groups and vulnerable populations, and innovative approaches to mental-health care.

The purpose of these mobilities extends beyond the development of the individual participant. Participants bring their learning home. Experiences are reflected upon and shared. New knowledge is adapted, tested and integrated into our programmes, teaching and practice and contributes to the continuing development of the Resilience Outreach Project.

European learning becomes local capacity. Local capacity becomes community resource.

Learning for the Next Stage

The wider Resilience Outreach model is still developing. European learning gives us opportunities to deepen what we have begun, encounter approaches tested in other contexts and develop areas of competence needed for the next stage of the work.

Our developing learning interests include the science and teaching of resilience; inclusive adult education; stress regulation and wellbeing; embodied and experiential learning; storytelling, voice and communication; digital and blended adult learning; community resilience and community-building; social connection and participation; peer learning and Communities of Practice; and approaches that help practical resilience skills travel into everyday life.

We are particularly interested in learning how adult education can reach larger and more diverse groups, and how individual resilience learning can contribute over time to more connected and resourceful communities.

Developing, Testing and Bringing Learning Home

The purpose is not simply to acquire new methods or reproduce programmes developed elsewhere.

European learning allows us to broaden the knowledge available within our community, strengthen educator competence and explore different gateways through which resilience can become accessible to different people and communities. Relevant learning is then considered in relation to the Maltese context, introduced carefully, and refined through experience and feedback.

This learning will also help us explore emerging areas of the project, including Community Resilience Champions, Train-the-Trainer pathways, digital and blended learning, and sustainable community resilience networks.

We learn internationally so that knowledge can travel home — strengthening the quality, reach and relevance of the work we offer in Malta.

From European Learning to Community Capacity

Our direction is:

European learning and exchange → stronger local educator capacity → more accessible pathways into resilience → practical skills used in everyday life → greater participation and connection → stronger communities.

Erasmus+ is helping us move from what we have already begun towards what the Resilience Outreach Project could become.
